This year's Nova Scotia’s Access Awareness Week is May 26 to June 1, 2025.

Access Awareness Week gives Nova Scotians a chance to learn about the work of disability advocates and leaders across the province, while better understanding the barriers that still exist for persons with disabilities.

Partnership for Access Awareness Nova Scotia (PAANS) a cross sectoral committee of the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities who plan and coordinate events, including:

Funding and awards:

Event Funding for Access Awareness Week Nova Scotia

Nova Scotian individuals, groups or organizations can apply to potentially receive $100.00 or more. Funds awarded may vary from the amount applied for depending on the total number of applications received. Funds must be used solely for the purpose of Access Awareness Week Nova Scotia events in the year funds are received. Each applicant may apply only once a year.

All applications must be submitted by April 25th, 2025 by 4:30pm. You can apply with an online application form or fill out the PDF application form and email to programs@nsleo.com To apply please click here

The Mel Hebb Hourglass Action Award

Partnership for Access Awareness Nova Scotia (PAANS) is pleased to invite nominations for the 2025 Mel Hebb Hourglass Action Awards. The Mel Hebb Hourglass Action Awards recognize Nova Scotians for their contributions to the lives of persons with disabilities. These contributions are diverse in nature and come from a wide variety of sources. Please share this notice with your community. Nomination deadline March 21 (6 awards honoring those who have contributed to the lives of persons with disabilities) To apply please click here

Scholarships for Students with Disabilities

NSLEO developed scholarships to assist Nova Scotians with disabilities in their pursuit of their post-secondary education and training. Two scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00; four scholarships in the amount of $1,500.00, and six in the amount of $2,000.00 are anticipated to be available for the academic year beginning September 2025. Please share this notice with your community. Nomination deadline March 29 (10 scholarship for students with disabilities entering post secondary) To apply please click here
