Accessible Employment - Retention and Career Development (Workshop)

Join the Accessibility Directorate and Sea Change CoLab for a 2-hour workshop on Accessible Employment - Retention and Career Development. Come prepared to engage in discussion and reflection as we:
- Identify and address barriers to accessibility in retention and career advancement for people with disabilities.
- Explore the four pillars of inclusive practices: Proactive Accommodations, Culture of Inclusion, Training and Professional Development, and Feedback and Recognition.
- Identify the impacts of inclusive practices for people with disabilities.
- Commit to action.
The content of this workshop aligns with recommendations developed by the Employment Standards Development Committee, which were released in the fall of 2024.
These workshops are open to any staff at your organization, including human resources staff, hiring managers, supervisors, leaders and anyone interested in creating a more inclusive workplace. The workshop is designed for staff at organizations that are prescribed public sector bodies under the Accessibility Act.
Accessibility Notes:
Please note that we ask about accessibility needs upon registration. We require at least 2 weeks’ notice to book ASL interpreters and closed captions, so please register within that timeframe. Proactive accessibility features include:
- AI-enabled closed captions
- ASL and closed captions on all first voice videos

(SeaChange CoLab) Welcoming All: Accessible Customer Service
Date: May 1st – 22nd, 2025 | Time: Anytime | Location: Online
- Identify how to communicate with customers who have various disabilities
- Explore how to interact with customers who:
- Use service animals, support persons, assistive devices
- Are neurodivergent
- Identify how to use any devices or equipment the provider may have to help customers access goods or services
- Practice how to assist a customer having difficulty accessing goods or services
(SeaChange CoLab) Accessibility in Action: Adapting for Summer and Seasonal Staff Skill Builder
Date: June 12th, 2025 | Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm | Location: Online
During this skill builder we will:
- Examine unique accessibility requirements for seasonal and summer employment.
- Identify best practices for accessible training and onboarding of temporary staff.
- Develop strategies for implementing effective, short-term accessibility measures in diverse work environments.
- Facilitate an understanding of legal and ethical accessibility considerations for seasonal workers.
- Create actionable plans for integrating accessibility into summer employment programs quickly and effectively.
